Construction is now underway for a dual-branded Marriott Hotel on the Marina del Rey waterfront.

The project, located on a 1.5-acre property at Tahiti Way and Via Marina, will feature a Courtyard Marriott and a Residence Inn.  Plans call for a pair of podium-type buildings featuring 288 total guest rooms, in addition to meeting space, food-and-beverage venues, and a swimming pool overlooking the Marina.

At the northern side of the project site, a six-story building will house feature the proposed Courtyard Marriott, which caters to business travelers with features such as free Wi-Fi, in-room desks and a variety of spaces for meetings and individual use. 

The five-story Residence Inn, planned at the south side of the property, caters to extended-stay guests with larger suites featuring personal kitchens and other apartment-like amenities.

San Diego-based Awbrey Cook Rogers McGill Architects is designing the double Marriott, which renderings portray with a contemporary look and feel.  Plans also call for a 28-foot-wide pedestrian promenade located between the hotel and the waterfront, as well as a new wetlands park that is planned immediately south of the hotels.

Construction is anticipated to occur over 24 months, placing the project's expected completion date in either late 2019 or early 2020.

Just north of the hotel site, a pair of large apartment complexes are now taking shape at Panay Way.  At the north side of the street's intersection with Via Marina, the $165-AMLI MDR development is now wrapping up work on its 585 residential units.  Across the street, wood and concrete are now rising for the 526-unit Neptune Marina apartments.

The project is being built by R.D. Olson Construction for the development entity MDR Hotels, LLC.
