The wait is finally over: the first phase of Metro's D Line extension to the westside will make its debut on March 8, 2026.

The initial 3.9 miles of the extension includes new stations at Wilshire/La Brea and Wilshire/Fairfax in Los Angeles and Wilshire/La Cienega in Beverly Hills. Each station includes a street-level plaza, a center island platform, escalators, and elevators.

Construction of the latter two phases of the project, which will include stops at near Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, in Century City, at Wilshire/Westwood, and at the West Los Angeles VA Campus, are slated for completion in 2027.

The $9.5-billion project includes nine miles of new subway tunnels starting from Wilshire/Western Station in Koreatown, and will offer an end-to-end trip between the Westside and Downtown in approximately 30 minutes. The total trip from the Section 1 terminus at Wilshire/La Cienega Station and Union Station will take approximately 20 minutes. Metro projects the D Line will attract 53,000 new daily riders when completed.

Under construction since 2019, the subway extension was funded through the sales taxes approved by L.A. County voters in Measures R and M which was matched with federal funds.
