Last week, the Los Angeles City Council voted to provide gap financing to a trio of affordable housing developments located in the Boyle Heights, Park Mesa Heights, and the San Fernando Valley.
Cielito Lindo Apartments II
The second phase of the Cielito Lindo Apartments, planned next-door to the already-finished first half of the project at 1st and Soto Streets, calls for the construction of a four-story building featuring studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments for households making between 30 and 50 percent of the area median income.
The Council's vote will provide another $1.6 million in funding for the project, raising the City's contribution to slightly over $2 million.
East L.A. Community Corporation and Gonzalez Goodale Architects are developing and designing the project, respectively.
The building will sit across the street from the Gold Line's underground Soto Station.
West Angeles City Place
West Angeles Comunity Development Corporation filed plans last year to raze a small commercial building at 54th Street and Crenshaw Boulevard to facilitate the development of a five-story building featuring 70 units of senior affordable housing atop 2,000 square feet of ground-level retail space.
The project will provide a mix of studio and one-bedroom apartments, located in close proximity to the Crenshaw/LAX Line's future Crenshaw/Slauson Station, targeting low-income seniors and seniors at risk of becoming homeless.
The Council's vote calls for $1.4 million in additional funding for the project, raising the City's total contribution to $3.85 million.
KFA Architecture designed the project, which takes cues from nearby Streamline Moderne buildings.
The Fiesta
The Fiesta, previously known as the Campus at L.A. Family Housing, features 50 units for special needs homeless and chronically homeless individuals. Although the project is already complete, the Council has voted to provide $1 million in new funds to cover changes during the construction phase.
