One year after commencing work in Van Nuys, construction continues for a $668-million upgrade to the G Line busway.
This week, Metro announced temporary bus and bike detours at the G Line's crossing of Sepulveda Boulevard, where a new bridge will be added to segregate transit vehicles from north-south traffic.
The detour, which began on March 28, and will remain in effect through the end of 2027, requires G Line passengers to board at a bus stop on the north side of the Sepulveda Station park and ride lot, at the intersection of Erwin Street and Langdon Avenue. That means that parking access to the lot will be limited to the entrance on Erwin Street, with access closed via Haskell Avenue.
The overcrossing of Sepulveda is one of two grade separations included in the project. The other involves a new grade-separated station at Van Nuys Boulevard, where passengers will one day be able to transfer to the East San Fernando Valley Boulevard light rail line running northbound, and potentially a heavy-rail subway line to the Westside in the more distant future.
Other elements of G Line project include gated crossings at 13 intersections and improved signaling at the busway's 22 other intersections.
When completed, the project is expected to cut 12 minutes of travel times for G Line buses, which currently take approximately 50 minutes to travel between Chatsworth and North Hollywood.
