Last month, Long Beach's new waterfront concert venue made its debut steps from the Queen Mary.
F&M Bank Amphitheater, located on a roughly seven-acre property at 1051 Queens Highway, includes seating for 11,000 spectators (and standing room capacity for 12,000). The complex also includes concession areas, lounges, offices, and a performance stage.
The project was financed through Long Beach's Tideland Funds Group, and construction costs will be repaid through operating profit from the amphitheater. At the time of the project's announcement, the City of Long Beach expected to generate between $2.5 million and $3 million each year.
Long Beach officials expect the amphitheater to host 40 concert-scale events each year. F&M made its debut on June with a concert from Long Beach native Snoop Dogg.
The quick-build venue is planned to remain in place for up to one decade, and is a prelude to a proposed permanent "Long Beach Bowl" which would serve as an anchor to the city's waterfront.
Long Beach is not the only waterfront community with designs on a new concert venue. A 6,200-seat amphitheater is also to be built as part of the West Harbor development in San Pedro.
