Construction is poised to begin soon on a street safety project along the perimeter of Los Angeles State Historic Park in Chinatown.

The Spring/Alameda Safety and Mobility Project, which is slated to begin work in August, will involve a roughly 1.2-mile stretch of Alameda Street and North Spring Street between Union Station and Wilhardt Street, and calls for removing one vehicle travel lane in each direction to install Class IV protected bike lanes.

Accessibility improvements such as curb ramps and signal upgrades will start the project off, and continue through Spring 2027. Street resurfacing and re-striping (with bike lanes) would occur in Summer 2027, with project completion anticipated by Fall 2027.

Work is set to begin first with the intersection of Alpine and Alameda Streets, and generally occur between 7 am and 5 pm between Mondays and Saturdays.

Final designs for roadway configurations are still pending, and can still be shaped by providing feedback here.
