A mixed-use affordable housing development is slated to replace a surface parking lot in Jefferson Park, according to an application filed earlier this month with the Los Angeles Department of City Planning.
The proposed development Mark Judaken of Kalnel Gardens, LLC, slated for a mid-block site at 2306 W. Jefferson Boulevard, calls for the construction of a new six-story building featuring 35 studio and one-bedroom apartments above 1,480 square feet of ground-floor commercial space.

Save for a single manager's unit, the apartments would be restricted to rent by low- and moderate-income renters.
Mika Design Group is designing the project, according to plans included with the filing.

"The ground floor and second floor of the Jefferson Boulevard facade are clad in brick veneer, establishing a durable masonry base consistent with the historic commercial character of the corridor," read findings included with the application. "The third through sixth floors are finished in light sand colored stucco. The parapet and cornice are finished with dark grey metal and fiber reinforced concrete. Fiber reinforced concrete accent details are incorporated at select locations on the facade."
The same project team is attached to another proposed mixed-use affordable housing project a few blocks to the west at 2903 W. Jefferson Boulevard.
