The operators of a behavioral health and substance use disorder treatment center in Santa Monica are looking to raze and redevelop their property with a new facility.

The CLARE|MATRIX Pico Campus, located at 901 W. Pico Boulevard, has been in operation since the 1970s. Plans call for demolishing three existing buildings to clear the way for a new four-story, approximately 26,000-square-foot structure with a single level of subterranean parking for 17 vehicles.

Last year, CLARE|MATRIX announced a more than $50-million funding award by the State of California for the project. Through the addition of a new 90-bed building, the expanded campus was to include:

  • 15 detox beds and withdrawal management services
  • 115 residential treatment beds for men and women (75 new beds)
  • 60 outpatient treatment slots to serve 300 individuals annually.

The design team for the expansion includes Felderman Keatinge + Associates and Arcaforma.

Formal applications for the project have yet to be submitted for review.

The project site was previously slated for the construction of a four-story, 45-unit multifamily residential building.
