Completion is roughly one year out for a new student housing complex at the Compton College campus, per a social media post from the school.

The project, which we last saw in January, occupies a 2.8-acre site along Main Campus Drive to the south of Greenleaf Boulevard. The housing complex is comprised of interconnected three-story structures which will feature 151 one- and two-bedroom suites, providing room for up to 251 homeless and low-income students.

HPI Architecture is designing the project, which will be centered on a landscaped central courtyard, and is composed of prefabricated modular units.

The project is funded in large part by grants totaling more than $80 million under AB 183. The total estimated cost of the development is $83 million.

Completion is expected in late Summery 2027.

Other local community colleges, including Long Beach Community College, are also in the process of building student on their campuses. A 2024 report concluded that one quarter of California community college students had experienced homelessness in the preceding year.
