The Pasadena City Council has approved a stormwater capture project which will transform an unused space next to the Eaton Wash into public open space. 

The Eaton Wash Stormwater Capture Project, planned for a site located just south of Del Mar Boulevard along the east side of the wash, calls for building new subsurface infrastructure to divert, treat, and store water from the Wash, which will be returned into the channel. Meanwhile, the ground level of the property would be developed with passive park uses, including a dog park, a community garden, and a pedestrian bridge to connect with Eaton Blanche Park on the opposite side of the waterway.

Pasadena Now reports that construction of the stormwater capture project and new park space could begin as early as July 2027.

To date, the City of Pasadena has secured $2.3 million in funding for the project through Los Angeles County's Measure W, which went toward design and engineering efforts. Caltrans is to provide $6.5 million for construction of the project.

Pasadena is also looking to implement new green space and stormwater capture infrastructure along the Arroyo Seco, although that project has run into legal and political challenges.
