Inglewood officials have kicked off the environmental review process for a general plan update that aims to guide the City's growth through the year 2050.

Branded as "Next Level Inglewood," the initiative began last year and is on schedule for adoption by Spring 2027. Following sweeping changes that have occurred in Inglewood over the past decade, including the arrival of SoFi Stadium and Intuit Dome, revisions to the plan's land use element are intended to bring zoning rules into consistency with current conditions. That means increasing development potential on sites surrounding Hollywood Park and on major commercial corridors, as well as resolving other consistencies.

According to a June 2026 staff report to the Inglewood City Council, there are 12 focus areas of the general plan update. In the northern part of the City, largely along Centinela Avenue and La Brea Avenue, zone changes would begin to permit the redevelopment of commercial parcels into mixed-use buildings with a combination of residential and neighborhood-serving retail uses. Plans call for buildings ranging between three and six stories in height, with base densities of up to 100 residential units per acre.

In central Inglewood, on sites along La Brea Avenue and Manchester Boulevard, proposed zone changes would allow the conversion of strip malls, parking lots, and other sites near Downtown into mixed-use buildings ranging from three to six stories in height, with a focus on properties surrounding Centinela Hospital.

On the western side of Inglewood, closer to the 405 Freeway, plans call for lower-scale residential and commercial uses. Many of these areas overlap with the LAX Land Use Plan, certain residential uses are restricted in these areas. Closer to the sports and entertainment venues along Prairie Avenue, commercial uses to complement SoFi Stadium, Intuit Dome, and other uses within Hollywood Park are proposed. That changes to the south of Century Boulevard, where plans call for mixed-use buildings similar to what would be permitted in the central area of the City.

The public comment period for the general plan update is open through October 15, and a scoping meeting will be held at Inglewood City Hall, Community Room A on Thursday, October 1, 2026, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
