The Los Angeles County Affordable Housing Solutions Agency (LACAHSA) has announced the closing of its first construction loan, which will go toward a mixed-use development in the City of Inglewood.
Sankofa Place at Centinela - a joint venture between Venice Community Housing, Linc Housing, and the Social Justice Learning Institute - will rise from a currently vacant property at 400 Centinela Avenue. Plans call for a permanent home for the Social Justice Learning Institute, as well as 120 units of affordable housing catering to residents earning between 30 and 80 percent of the area median income level.
State funding has also been awarded to provide off-site improvements in conjunction with the project, including a new east-west bikeway parallel to Florence Avenue and money for electric buses.
Aero Collective is designing the project along with The Architects Collective.
LACAHSA is providing a $7.5 million loan to the Sankofa Place, which has an estimated total price tag of $44 million, and has cobbled together money from various state and local sources.
A groundbreaking for the project is expected in October.
