A curving mixed-use tower designed by Studio Gang is set to rise in Chinatown.

The project, first reported by Curbed, calls for replacing a series of small commercial at 643 N. Spring Street with a 26-story, 282-foot-tall building that would feature 294 apartments, 149 hotel rooms, 15,878 square feet of commercial uses, and public open space.

The wavy glass-and-steel structure would feature recessed windows to create shade, as well as a 22,000-square-foot ground-level plaza and landscaped terraces at the second- and third floors designed by Elysian.

French real estate investment firm Compagnie de Phalsbourg is designing the project, in concert with local partner Creative Space.  MOB Hotel has been tapped to operate the property at completion.

The project site was previously slated for a mid-rise apartment complex from local developer Redcar Properties, which has since withdrawn its proposal.

The mixed-use tower would rise just east of La Plaza Village, a two-building development consisting of mixed-income apartments and retail that is now rising on a pair of County-owned parking lots.
