Weeks after closing on construction financing, Venice Community Housing, Linc Housing, and the Social Justice Learning Institute have commenced work on a mixed-use affordable housing development in Inglewood.
Sankofa Place at Centinela, which will rise at 400 Centinela Avenue, will create a new 25,000-square-foot home for the Social Justice Learning Institute, as well as 120 units of affordable housing catering to residents earning between 30 and 80 percent of the area median income level.
The project will be accompanied by off-site improvements funded by a state grant, including a new east-west bikeway parallel to Florence Avenue and money for electric buses.
Aero Collective is designing the project along with The Architects Collective.
LACAHSA is providing a $7.5 million loan to the Sankofa Place, which has an estimated total price tag of $44 million, and has cobbled together money from various state and local sources.
Completion is expected in 2028.
