In Warner Center, a tower crane has appeared at the intersection of Califa Street and Variel Avenue, where work is underway for a new affordable development from Elysian Housing.

"The Green," which is rising at 21155 Califa Street, will consist of a seven-story complex featuring 316 one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments above parking for 300 vehicles when complete.

The apartments are to be reserved for low- and moderate-income renters, save for two manager's units, according to plans filed last year with the City of Los Angeles.

Koning Eizenberg is designing the apartment complex, which is shown in plans with contemporary look and multiple interior courtyards. The building would include decorative signage evoking the look of Mid-Century dingbat apartments.

The project follows on the heels of a similar affordable housing development from Meta Housing now taking shape around the block at 21300 Oxnard Street. It is now one of roughly a half-dozen similar projects in the works for the Warner Center area.

Elysian Housing is also developing affordable apartments on a property on Rosemead Avenue in Pasadena.
