Just east of Union Station, construction continues for a new Silver Line bus platform in the median of the El Monte Busway.
The project, budgeted at $37.6-million, will replace an existing stop near Alameda Street. Its design is intended to ease transfers for Silver Line passengers between the busway and Union Station through a 500-foot pedestrian bridge that will link with Patsaouras Plaza. The existing transfer requires a circuitous quarter-mile walk.
The bridge is being designed with a display by artist Ned Kahn, which calls for a wrap of perforated stainless steel panels that move with the breeze.
Completion has previously been scheduled to occur sometime this year.
