Nonprofit developer Abode Communities has topped out at its Rolland Curts Gardens development just south of USC.

The $63-million development, which replaced an older apartment complex of the same name, will consist of one-to-five-story buildings containing 140 rental units, 8,000 square feet of ground-level retail space, and a landscaped courtyard.  Parking for 114 vehicles is also being built on the property.

The mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments will be targeted toward households making between 30 and 60 percent of the area median income.  Rents will be set between $466 and $1,354 per month.

Completion of the Rolland Curtis Gardens project is anticipated in 2019.  Abode is now accepting applications for the property.

The property, located next to Metro's Expo/Vermont Station, is not the only project with affordable units coming to the neighborhood.  Just north on Vermont Avenue, a mixed-income development is set to rise from the former site of the Bethune Library.
