Fairfield Residential and Legendary Development have lifted the curtain at The Aliso, a $215-million mixed-use development in the Arts District.

The project, which is rising from a long-vacant site next to SCI-Arc, features five- and six-story structures that will offer 472 rental apartments and 22,000 square feet of street-fronting retail space.

Kava Massih Architects designed the six-acre complex, which greets its northern frontage along 3rd Street with a facade of corrugated metal panels.  Renderings also show a mix of paseos and green spaces interspersed throughout the triangular development site.

Partial completion of The Aliso is anticipated later this year.

South across 4th Street from the development site, Hudson Pacific Properties is currently converting a historic warehouse into office space.  A 35-story tower is also planned nearby at 520 Mateo Street.
