After two years of construction, Taubman Centers, Inc. has completed its $500-million renovation of the Beverly Center.
The project, which was designed by Studio Fuksas, sought to soften the appearance of the hulking 886,000-square-foot shopping mall, which has been a Beverly Grove landmark since it opened 36 years ago.
New features include:
- A 25,000-square-foot skylight which floods the Beverly Center's interior with natural light;
- Expanded floor openings to allow sunlight to reach all floors and improve sight lines;
- Improved lighting at valet entrances;
- A new white exterior clad, clad with mesh facade and adorned with programmable LED lighting;
- New streetscape greenery; and
- A central grand court featuring a large LED screen and event space.
Taubman has further opened the building up to the surrounding neighborhood by adding new ground-level restaurant space along portions of 3rd Street and La Cienega Boulevard. Some of the new additions include Yardbird, Akira Back Steak, Eggslut, Pitchoun! Bakery, and Tocaya Organica.
Art installations occupy prominent locations across the redesigned mall, highlighted by the 35-foot-tall Grand Court screen with a permanent installation by Refik Anadol.
