The skeleton of a new apartment building is beginning to appear above a parking garage just south of Wilshire Boulevard in Koreatown.
Jamison Services, Inc., which owns the two-story structure at 678 S. Ardmore Avenue, is adding five floors of new wood-frame construction to create 124 apartments.
The new construction dovetails with Jamison's neighboring adaptive reuse project, which is converting a 13-story office building at 3540 Wilshire Boulevard into apartments. The upper floors of the mid-century tower will be turned into 206 live/work lofts, while existing ground-floor retail space is being retained.
DFH Architects is designing the new construction, while Corbel Architects is designing the adaptive reuse portion of the project.
Jamison is also in the midst of construction on a near-identical development at Wilshire and Catalina Street, in which new apartments are being built atop a parking garage and within an adjoining office tower.
