At its meeting tomorrow, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors is poised to sign off on the release of $20 million in state bonds to finance site acquisition and construction of a new affordable housing development in unincorporated East Los Angeles.
Slated for a property at the northwest corner of 4161-4169 Whittier Boulevard, plans call for a three-story building featuring 42 apartments and 1,161 square feet of ground-floor retail space. The proposed development would also include residential amenities and a small parking garage.
Designed by Pasadena-based architecture firm Gonzalez Goodale, the building will offer a mix of studio, one-, and two-bedroom apartments priced for households earning no more than 30 percent of the Los Angeles area median income.
A timeline for the project has not been announced.
Meta Housing Corp. is the developer of the proposed affordable housing complex, which is called Whittier & Downey NW. The proposed development is a follow-up to Whittier & Downey SE, a $31-million project featuring 71 affordable units that is currently under construction at the same intersection.
