Hollywood Community Housing Corporation is putting the finishing touches on the Paul R. Williams Apartments, its new affordable housing development which incorporates the Angelus Funeral Home.
Located at 1010 E. Jefferson Boulevard in the Historic South-Central area, the approximately $21-million development includes the ground-up construction of a four-story building and the adaptive reuse of the historic funeral home, creating a total of 41 one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments. The units will be set aside for households at or below the 30, 45, and 50 percent levels, with rents ranging between $488 and $1,128 per month.
Plans also call for on-site supportive services, including financial literacy workshops, college mentoring, and after-school tutoring.
M2A Architects is designing the project, which is named for Paul Revere Williams, the original architects of the Angelus Funeral Home, and the first African American elected as a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects.
The Angelus Funeral Home Building dates to the 1930s, though its namesake business relocated to Crenshaw Boulevard in the 1960s.
