Last year, Los Angeles City Councilmember Nury Martinez introduced a motion calling for the use of $4.5 million in CRA/LA excess bond proceeds for the purpose of property acquisition and park development in the Pacoima/Panorama City Redevelopment Project Area. It seems that the Council Office has found its future park site.
In a follow-up motion introduced yesterday, Martinez writes that Council District staff have identified a property located at 11957-11963 Allegheny Street in the Sun Valley community that may be available and suitable for use as a community park. The motion requests Council authorization for the City of Los Angeles to enter into negotiations to acquire the site, which is currently improved with a pair of single-family residences.
The combined size of the two lots is just over one acre. They sit just south of a newly constructed building that houses a charter middle school and high school.
The motion by Martinez has been referred to the City Clerk for placement on a future agenda of the City Council.
