A notice issued by the City of Los Angeles sheds new light on the Hollywood Arts Collective, a proposed mixed-use affordable housing development that would replace a city-owned parking lot just south of the Walk of Fame.
The proposed development, which would span a 57,000-square-foot site at 1633 N. Wilcox Avenue, calls for the construction of a seven-story building which would feature 154 studio, one-, two-, and three- bedroom apartments with up to 4,700 square feet of ground-floor retail space. Plans also call for three courtyards and a three-level, 259-car basement parking structure, which would include replacement parking for the existing surface lot.
Developer Thomas Safran & Associates would provide a mix of affordable and market-rate units, with 61 apartments to be set aside for households earning between 30 and 60 percent of the area median income, and the remaining 90 apartments to be made available to art university students in the Hollywood area.
The project will likely be the beneficiary of $5.85 million in Home Investment Partnership Program funds through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The City of Los Angeles is scheduled to submit a request for the funds next month.
Besides the Hollywood Arts Collective, a number of other mixed-use and hotel developments are coming to the surrounding area, including a 15-story development adjacent to the 1930s Attie Building across the street, and a proposed 11-story hotel on Schrader Avenue.
