San Diego-based Affirmed Housing Group has broken ground on a low-income housing development in the Westlake district.
The Aria development, now rising at 1532-1538 Cambria Street, will consist of a five-story building featuring 56 units of permanent supportive housing and one manager's unit.
According to a staff report given to the California Tax Credit Allocation Committee, the project will offer a mix of studio and one-bedroom apartments priced for households making at or below 30 percent of the area median income, and at or below 60 percent of the area median income. Studio units will rent for $473 per month, and one-bedroom dwellings for $507.
Togawa Smith Martin is designing the contemporary low-rise building, which will be capped by a rooftop deck.
Site preparation began for the $28-million development in January; a groundbreaking ceremony for the project is scheduled for March 4.
Affirmed Housing recently filed plans to construct a similar permanent supportive housing development in South Los Angeles.
