Non-profit developer Clifford Beers Housing has broken ground on Vistas del Puerto, an affordable apartment complex in Long Beach.
Located at 1836-1852 Locust Avenue, the five-story building will feature 48 residential units reserved for households earning between 30 and 50 percent of the area median income. The apartments are to be used for formerly homeless individuals and families, including those experiencing chronic health conditions.
“We share the City of Long Beach’s vision of identifying innovative solutions to the region’s housing crisis,” said Cristian Ahumada, Executive Director of Clifford Beers Housing in a statement. “With Vistas del Puerto, we are providing new hope for 48 households to stabilize their lives and leave the cycle of homelessness for good.”
Santa Monica-based KFA Architecture designed Vistas del Puerto, which will provide on-site supportive services as well as common spaces for residents. Renderings depict a contemporary low-rise structure, with two wings flanking a grand staircase.
The new apartment building is located a block west of the Blue Line's PCH Station, which runs in the median of Long Beach Boulevard. It is the second affordable housing development to break ground in close proximity to the station this month, following LINC Housing's The Spark at Midtown, which is now under construction at 1900 Long Beach Boulevard.
