After a year of construction, the wooden frame of a senior and veterans affordable housing development has reached its fourth floor near Expo/La Brea Station.
The $29.3-million project, a joint venture between the Cesar Chavez Foundation and New Directions for Veterans, is located at 3015 S. West View Street. Plans call for a three- and four-story structure that will provide 32 apartments for homeless veterans, four units for homeless senior veterans, and 27 units for seniors.
Plans call for a mix of one- and two-bedroom dwellings, with rents set between $260 and $1,120 per month. Apartments are available to persons making between 30 and 50 percent of the area median income.
On-site amenities will include a community garden, a computer room, a fitness center, a 53-car garage, and social services for residents.
Architecture firm Togawa Smith Martin designed the project, in coordination with TGP Landscape Architecture, which will incorporate Spanish Colonial Revival traits, similar to nearby 1920s multifamily buildings.
The project replaced 15 existing apartments; all former residents were relocated prior to the start of construction.
