Midwood Investment & Development, owners of the Sportsmen's Lodge in Studio City, has announced plans for an adjacent retail development.
The project, called The Shops at Sportsmen's Lodge, will replace an existing events center with 94,000 square feet of shops and restaurants and dedicated parking for 450 vehicles. Construction is anticipated to begin in August 2019, with completion expected by Fall 2020.
“The redevelopment of The Shops at Sportsmen’s Lodge marks an important milestone for our firm and Studio City,” said John Usdan, CEO of Midwood Investment & Development in a statement. “We have been long-term owners of the property, and we are looking forward to making it a central gathering place for the community and provider of amenities for those who live and work in the area.”
An 11,000-square-foot Erewhon Market and an Equinox Fitness have been announced as the project's anchor tenants.
Designed by Gensler and OLIN Studio, The Shops will include several landscaped courtyards, with buildings oriented around the Sportsmen's Lodge.
Midwood, which owns the hotel, is co-developing the project with Richard Weintraub, owner of the events center. The Los Angeles Times reports that Midwood had opposed an earlier attempt by Weintraub to redevelop the events center, but the two parties have since put aside their differences to partner on the $100-million project.
