After a year-and-a-half of construction, the wood frame of the Veterans Village of Carson is complete and exterior work is in full swing.

The project, located at the southwest corner of Carson and Figueroa Streets, is being developed by Thomas Safran & Associates.  The four-story building will feature 51 apartments - including one-, two-, and three-bedroom floor plans - reserved for veterans earning up to 60 percent of the area median income.  Plans also call for 2,500 square feet of ground-floor retail, a community room, and a 73-car garage.

Withee Malcolm Architects designed the Veterans Village, which will be highlighted by a clock tower at the corner of Figueroa and Carson.

According to a rental application distributed last year, the maximum rents for the property will be approximately: $1,091 for a one-bedroom units; $1,309 for a two-bedroom unit; and $1,512 for a three-bedroom unit.  Thomas Safran & Associates will be accepted two- and three-bedroom applications for veterans starting next week.
