East L.A. Community Corporation and New Directions for Veterans have launched their leasing effort for a $34.5-million senior veterans housing development in the San Fernando Valley.
The Sun Valley Senior Apartments, located at 9041 N. Laurel Canyon Boulevard, consists of a four-story building featuring 88 one- and two-bedroom apartments, in addition to ancillary functions such as a library, laundry facilities, a fitness center, a media room, and a computer lab. Plans also call for on-site supportive services such as case management, benefits assistance, educational courses, medication management, and social activities.
Y&M Architects designed the contemporary low-rise structure, and Westport Construction is serving as general contractor.
Applications have been made available for 40 units at this point in time, reserved for seniors aged 62 and older. One-bedroom dwellings will rent for $979 per month, limited to households earning at least $23,496 per month and a maximum between $36,550 and $47,000 depending on family size. Two-bedroom dwellings will rent for $1,175 per month, with a minimum annual income of $28,200 per month and a maximum limit between $41,800 and $56,400 depending on family size.
