A pair of small commercial buildings in the Pico-Union community could make way for an affordable housing complex, according plans filed earlier this month with the City of Los Angeles.
The project, filed by an entity affiliated with the non-profit Wakeland Housing & Community Development Corporation, calls for the construction of a multi-story building at 2652-2662 W. Pico Boulevard featuring 54 apartments - including 53 to be set aside for low-income households.
Requested entitlements for the development include Transit Oriented Communities affordable housing incentives allowing for increased height and a reduction in required on-site open space. Additionally, Wakeland has requested streamlined permitting via SB 35.
The project joins a handful of similar affordable and permanent supportive housing projects now in development in Pico-Union, including West Hollywood Community Housing Corporations Elden Elms and Westmore Linden complexes.
Wakeland, which is headquartered in San Diego, is also developing low-income housing in Mid-City and South Los Angeles.
