At a ceremony held earlier this month, affordable housing developer Thomas Safran & Associates broke ground on its latest project at the former site of the West L.A. Animal Shelter.
The Missouri Place development, located at the southeast corner of Bundy Drive and Missouri Avenue, calls for the construction of a six-story edifice featuring 74 one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments atop parking for 41 vehicles.
At the current time, rents are expected to range from $545 to $1,512 per month, according to a project website. The apartments will be reserved for households earning at or below 60 percent of the area median income - roughly $40,740 for a single adult.
Withee Malcolm Architects is designing Missouri Place, which is depicted in renderings as a contemporary low-rise structure. Architectural plans show amenities such as a courtyard, a fitness room, and a community room, as well as offices for on-site supportive services.
Completion is anticipated in Summer 2021.
The Missouri Place development sits just northeast of the former site of Martin Cadillac, where construction recently began for a mixed-use complex consisting of office, mixed-income housing, and ground-floor retail space.
Both projects are located within walking distance of Metro's Expo/Bundy Station.
