With its former home above the squat Salvation Army building now woefully inadequate, crews from Webcor Builders recently moved the Metropolis construction camera to a new location atop the 1100 Wilshire condominium tower.

Now perched nearly 500 feet above ground, the webcam displays the full extent of the 6.3-acre development site, which has been under near constant construction since June 2014.

The $1-billion project, which is being developed by Greenland USA, will consist of a mixture of hotel rooms, residential units and premium retail space.

An 18-story Hotel Indigo, now rising at the corner of Francisco Street and James M. Wood Boulevard, will feature 350 guest rooms and multiple food and beverage venues.  Traveling north up Francisco Street, a trio of residential towers towers rising 38, 40 and 58 stories will include a cumulative 1,558 condominiums and nearly 75,000 square feet of commercial floor area.  The 58-story building, located at the corner of 8th and Francisco Streets, will become one of the city's tallest residential towers at 647 feet in height.

All phases of Metropolis, which features design work from architecture firms Gensler and Harley Ellis Devereaux, are expected to be complete by 2018.

The camera also offers a glimpse of two other high-rise projects currently reshaping the landscape of South Park.  Dirt pits for the $1-billion Oceanwide Plaza complex and the $500-million Circa development are both visible to the east of Staples Center.
