A vacant preschool in Florence could be redeveloped with affordable housing, according plans submitted yesterday to the City of Los Angeles.
The property, located at the northeast corner of 85th Street and Broadway, is currently developed with a single-story structure and a small playground. Plans call for clearing the property of these uses to make way for the construction of a five-story building featuring 50 affordable housing units and ground-floor commercial space.
Requested entitlements include Transit Oriented Communities housing incentives, which allow for greater density and height than is normally permitted by local zoning restrictions.
City records list the project applicant as RMG Housing, a Los Angeles-based developer of affordable and permanent supportive housing. A project page from the company's website indicates that the proposed development would also include a gym, a community room, and on-site caseworkers provided by Homeless Healthcare of Los Angeles.
RMG Housing is also developing low-income apartments in Vermont Square and Wilmington, among other neighborhoods.
