Nearly a year-and-a-half after we last checked in, construction is in full swing at Woodridge Capital Partners' $2.5-billion Century Plaza development.
The concrete frames of twin 44-story condo towers, located at 2025 Avenue of the Stars, now form a commanding presence in the Century City skyline. The buildings, which have triangular footprints, will feature 268 luxury residences at completion.
The new towers stand directly west of the historic Century Plaza Hotel, which is undergoing a full renovation that will transform it into a 400-room Fairmont Hotel with 63 condominiums on its upper levels. The 16-story building will also feature 93,000 square feet of retail space.
The project's design team includes Pei Cobb Freed, HED, Gensler, Marmol Radziner, and RCH Studios. Their work builds off of the original design of the hotel by Minoru Yamasaki, the architect who was also responsible iconic Century Plaza office towers located across Avenue of the Stars.
As of October 2019, the Los Angeles Times reports that sales prices at for the new condominiums would range from as low as $2 million to more than $50 million. More than $200 million in pre-sales had been closed at that point in time.
Completion of the hotel is expected this Spring, while the toweres are scheduled to open in Spring 2021.
The Century Plaza towers are not the only upcoming additions to the Century City skyline. At the opposite corner of Constellation Boulevard and Avenue of Stars, JMB Realty Corp. is planning a 37-story office building with more than 700,000 square feet of leasable space. The Chicago-based firm had previously considered building a pair of apartment towers on the site.
Both projects follow Ten Thousand, a luxury apartment tower completed by Miami-based developer Crescent Heights in 2017.
In the coming years, the Century Plaza site will be well served by Metro's Purple Line subway extension, which will have a station located at the intersection of Constellation and Avenue of the Stars.
