Demolition is in progress at two late 19th century houses in Westlake, clearing the way for the construction of a new affordable housing complex.
The project site, located at 418-430 N. Firmin Street, is approved for the construction of a seven-story building featuring 45 units of permanent supportive housing and 19 apartments for low-income households. The new development will include a mix of studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom dwellings in addition to a 10-car garage.
Dahlin Group is designing the Spanish Colonial Revival style building, which is called Firmin Court.
The approximately $38.5-million development is a joint venture between Decro Corp. and Innovative Housing Opportunities.
A staff report to the California Tax Credit Allocation Committee indicates that the apartments will cater to households earning at or below 30 and 60 percent of the area median income, with rents ranging from $509 to $1,512 per month.
Decro Corp., based in Culver City, is also developing affordable and supportive housing in Lincoln Heights and Van Nuys.
Innovative Housing Opportunities, located in Santa Ana, is partnering on a development in South Los Angeles.
