Ten months after breaking ground in East Los Angeles, the El Nuevo Amanacer Apartments are now rising above street level.
The project, which is being developed by East L.A. Community Corporation (ELACC), is located at the northwest corner of 1st Street and Rowan Avenue. Plans call for a four-story edifice featuring 61 apartments above 10,000 square feet of ground-floor commercial space.
The one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments will be set aside for homeless veterans and low-income families. Rents will range from $545 to $1,260 per month, according to a staff report to the California Tax Credit Allocation Committee.
Birba Group Architects is designing the Spanish Colonial Revival style building, which will greet the corner of 1st and Rowan with a pedestrian plaza.
The project budget is estimated at approximately $40 million.
ELACC has developed numerous affordable and supportive housing projects in Los Angeles County, including a new project catering to veterans in the El Sereno neighborhood.
