Co-developers Bridge Housing Corp. and The Michaels Organization are wrapping up construction on Phase 1B of the Jordan Downs revamp in Watts.
The project, which spans six blocks of Century Boulevard, consists of 135 residential units in a range of one-to-five-bedroom floor plans. The new apartments will be reserved for households earning at or below 60 percent of the area median income.
The low-rise structures are designed by SVA Architects.
The City of Los Angeles, which owns Jordan Downs, has engaged in a 10-year master plan to redevelop and expand the 1940s housing complex from 700 residential units to approximately 1,400 income-restricted homes.
As part of the master plan, the City has also extended Century Boulevard through the Jordan Downs site to Alameda Street, and engaged Primestor Development to build a new retail center along the eastern perimeter of the complex. Commercial tenants include a Nike store, a Smart & Final grocer, a Ross discount clothing store, and Blink Fitness.
In addition to Jordan Downs, the City of Los Angeles has also tapped private development teams to revamp and expand the Rancho San Pedro and Rose Hill Courts public housing complexes.
