One block south of Hollywood Boulevard, construction is underway on Selma Community Housing, a $32-million affordable housing complex which will cater to employees of the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD).
The project, located on a .65-acre site at the intersection of Selma and Cherokee Avenues, is being developed by Los Angeles-based non-profit Abode Communities. Designs call for a five-story structure which will feature 66 apartments, an outdoor children's play area and 117 underground parking spaces.
According to a document from the California State Treasurer's Office, the low-rise development will offer a mixture of one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments with rents ranging from $550 to $1,272.
Abode Communities has scheduled completion of the project for Fall 2016.
Selma Community Housing, located at 1603 N. Cherokee Avenue, would sit to the northwest of a landscape-shifting mixed-use complex planned around Sunset Boulevard's historic Crossroads of the World.
The Hollywood development is the second of three housing projects planned by LAUSD. The first, Gardena's Sage Park Apartments, was completed in 2014.
