A half-year after we last checked in, the metal exterior of a mixed-use development from CIM Group is now taking shape in Sawtelle.
The project, located along the south side of Santa Monica Boulevard between Granville and Stoner Avenues, consists of a five-story edifice which will feature 154 studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments - including 16 reserved for very low-income households - above 16,600 square feet of ground-floor retail.
LOHA designed the podium-type building, which will incorporate amenities such as co-working space, a community lounge, a pool deck, and a gym. Renderings show a large courtyard deck carved into the buildings Santa Monica Boulevard frontage.
Completion is on pace to occur in December 2020.
The new development, along with four adjacent apartment buildings also built by CIM Group, was purchased earlier this year by the University of California. The apartments are to be used as housing for UCLA students in the future.
The project site is along an active stretch of Santa Monica Boulevard, with several neighboring properties also primed for large mixed-use projects. Residential-retail developments are currently planned for properties at the street's intersections with Barrington, Barry, and Federal Avenues.
