Construction is ramping up for Missouri Place, a new affordable housing development at the former site of the West Los Angeles Animal Shelter.
A red tower crane now stands above the intersection of Bundy Drive and Missouri Avenue, where developer Thomas Safran & Associates is now nearly six months into construction at the six-story, 74-unit housing complex.
The completed building will offer an array of one-, two-, and three-bedroom floor plans, reserved for households earning 60 percent or less than the area median income - which is roughly $40,740 for a single adult. Rents for the apartments will range from $545 to $1,512 per month, according to a project website.
Additionally, roughly half of the apartments will be set aside as permanent supportive housing for formerly homeless persons.
The contemporary low-rise development is designed by Withee Malcolm Architects, and will feature amenities such as a courtyard, a community room, a fitness center, and on-site supportive services.
The apartments are scheduled to be available for occupancy in Summer 2021.
The project site is located a short walk north of Metro's Expo/Bundy Station, and across the street from a mixed-use development featuring offices, housing, and retail which is now under construction at the former site of Martin Cadillac.
