A staff presentation to the Pasadena Design Commission unveils a new look for The Madison, a multifamily residential development planned by Toledo Homes.
The project, which would replace a surface parking lot at 127 N. Madison Avenue, calls for the construction of a five-story building containing 49 apartments above 2,500 square feet of retail space and parking. Additional components of the proposed development would include a community room, a central courtyard, and a rooftop deck.
Los Angeles-based architecture firm Struere is designing The Madison, which which would have a C-shaped footprint above the ground floor, allowing the building's central courtyard to open to the street. Proposed finishes include terra cotta, formed metal, and beige stucco.
The redesign diverges sharply from a prior iteration of the project announced in late 2019, which was described as "Contemporary Craftsman."
Toledo Homes has not announced a timeline for The Madison.
The company, which is headquartered in Pasadena, is developing several housing projects in its hometown and the neighboring city of Glendale.
