In May, San Diego-based Affirmed Housing Group initiated entitlement proceedings to build a new supportive housing development in the Sawtelle neighborhood.  Now, architectural plans posted by the West L.A.-Sawtelle Neighborhood Council provide a look at renderings of the project.

The proposed development, slated to replace a duplex and two triplexes as 2444-2456 S. Barry Avenue, calls for the construction of a six-story building featuring 61 one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments, divided between permanent supportive housing and subsidized low-income housing.

Withee Malcolm Architects is designing the proposed development, which would consist of five levels of wood-frame construction above a single-story concrete podium.  The building, which would be clad in stucco and metal panels, would have a U-shaped footprint surrounding a courtyard area.  Other project components include a roof deck, a recreation room, and case management offices.

The proposed development's requested entitlements include density bonus incentives to permit greater density and floor area than would otherwise be allowed by the property's base zoning.  Its entitlement application states that it is a by-right project in accordance with the state legislation AB 2162.

In addition to 2144 Barry, Affirmed Housing is developing or partnering on a half-dozen other affordable and supportive housing projects in the Los Angeles area.  Three of the company's developments are currently under construction in East Hollywood, Westlake, and South Los Angeles.
