A former LADOT field office near the Vermont/Beverly Metro station could be up for grabs as a development site.
The City-owned property, located at 411 N. Vermont Avenue, has been improved with a large parking structure since the mid-1960s. According to a motion introduced on August 26 by 13th District Councilmember Mitch O'Farrell, the roughly two-acre site could be suitable for a new development consisting of permanent supportive housing, mixed-income housing, ground-floor commercial space, or potentially municipal uses.
The motion, which has been referred to the City Council's Housing Committee for first consideration, would direct the City Administrative Officer and other relevant departments to report back on the potential redevelopment of 411 N. Vermont Avenue within 45 days. Depending on the findings of that report, the Housing and Community Investment Department would then be directed to prepare a request for proposals in search of developers.
Should the City move forward with plans to redevelop the property with permanent supportive housing, the property at Vermont and Oakwood Avenue would be in good company.
Just two blocks east, non-profit developer PATH is in the midst of construction at a new campus consisting of supportive housing and homeless services.
Just across the street from the PATH campus, the City recently signed off on plans to redevelop an industrial property with more than 450 apartments for unhoused persons.
Other developers have received entitlements for large market-rate projects in the near vicinity - most notably the 490-unit apartment complex slated to rise at the former site of Midway Ford.
