More than two years after we last checked in, developer Jeff Greene is wrapping up construction at a new apartment complex near the Hollywood Highland Center.
The project, called Zen Hollywood, is located at the southeast corner of Highland and Franklin Avenues. The six-story edifice, which replaced a surface parking lot, contains 118 studio, one, two-, and three-bedroom apartments above a 216-car basement garage.
A leasing website advertises rents ranging from $3,300 per month for a studio unit to more than $9,300 per month for a three-bedroom dwelling.
Arquitectonica designed the podium-type building, which incorporates amenities such as a fitness center, a gym, and a screening room.
The project is one of several mixed-use and multifamily residential projects in the works near the Hollywood Highland Center, which is poised to undergo a $100-million renovation over the coming year.
Two blocks south of the Zen project site, developer Jamison Services, Inc. is wrapping up work on its Archer apartments - a mixed-use complex featuring 224 residential units and street-fronting commercial space.
At Las Palmas and Yucca Street, the site of a small surface parking lot has been approved for redevelopment with another housing and retail complex.
Greene, the developer of Zen, is also pursuing a controversial mixed-use project near the Crenshaw/LAX Line which calls for razing a 1940s garden style apartment complex.
