Ten months after breaking ground in Mar Vista, the wood-and-concrete frame of Community Corp. of Santa Monica's Vista Ballona development is protruding above ground level.
The $33.7-million project, now rising at 3960 Grand View Boulevard, will consist of a six-story edifice featuring 50 one- and two- bedroom apartment, priced for households earning between 30 and 60 percent of the area median income. Community Corp. will set aside 12 apartments for persons with developmental disabilities.
Rents for the apartments will range from $285 to $1,746 per month, according to a staff report to the California Tax Credit Allocation Committee.
FSY Architects is designing the Vista Ballona, which is being built to obtain LEED Platinum Certification. A rendering depicts a contemporary podium-type building.
Completion of the housing complex is expected in 2021.
In addition to Vista Ballona, Community Corp. is in pre-development or construction at four different projects in its hometown of Santa Monica - including a senior housing complex now rising on 14th Street.
