In Silver Lake, vertical construction is complete for a new multifamily residential building just north of the US-101 Freeway.

The development, which replaced an auto repair garage at 505 Silver Lake Boulevard, consists of a five-story structure which will feature 60 one- and two-bedroom apartments above a 45-car basement garage.

Local real estate investment firm A.J. Khair Development & Construction entitled the project using Transit Oriented Communities affordable housing incentives, permitting greater height than allowed by the property's zoning.  IN exchange, five apartments will be set aside as deed-restricted affordable housing at the extremely low-income level.

NAC Architecture is designing the project, which will be clad in a mix of stucco and wood panels.  Plans call for amenities such as a central courtyard and a rooftop deck, as well as street-fronting townhome units facing Silver Lake Boulevard.

The apartment complex is the latest in a series of new housing developments along Silver Lake Boulevard, including a new project now being built by CIM Group one block north at Bellevue Avenue and Dillon Street.

In addition to the Silver Lake development, other new projects from A.J. Khair include a mixed-use apartment building on Sunset Boulevard and a proposed hotel in San Pedro.
