Six months after we last checked in, A Community of Friends is putting the finishing touches on Firestone Phoenix, a new supportive housing complex in the unincorporated community of Florence-Firestone.
The project, which replaced a parking lot at 7321 Miramonte Boulevard, consists of a three-story edifice which will feature 44 apartments for formerly homeless veterans and families.
Per a staff report to the California Tax Credit Allocation Committee, the roughly $24-million project will offer rents deemed affordable to households earning between 35 and 50 percent of the area median income. Plans call for a mix of studio, one-, and two-bedroom dwellings with rents between $509 and $1,091 per month.
Y&M Architects is designing Firestone Phoenix, which will also include a community room, a courtyard, and offices for supportive services.
Completion of the apartment building is expected in early 2021.
The project site is located a block south of the intersection of Florence Avenue and Miramonte Boulevard, where AMCAL Multi-Housing, Inc. is also in the end stages of construction at a larger 109-unit affordable housing complex.
Firestone Phoenix is the latest in a series of recent developments for A Community of Friends, including an upcoming project near the Crenshaw/LAX Line in Hyde Park.
