Last week, the Los Angeles Department of City Planning published new environmental documents which provide a first look at Hollywood's proposed Tommie Hotel.

The project, which is being developed by Los Angeles-based real estate firm Five Chairs, is slated for a half-acre site at 1400 Cahuenga Boulevard.  Plans call for a seven-story structure containing 175 guest rooms above 5,600 square feet of ground-floor retail and restaurant space.  Other features would include a two-level subterranean garage, with accommodations for 106 vehicles and 62 bicycles.

Renderings from the Rockwell Group, the hotel's Chicago-based design architect, portray a contemporary-style building with cube-shaped glass protrusions.  According to the website of Steinberg Architects, which is serving as the project's executive architect, the Tommie Hollywood would include amenities such as a rooftop pool deck, a sauna, a fitness center and various meeting rooms.

Construction of the proposed hotel would occur over approximately two years, although an groundbreaking date is currently unclear.  The project's initial study points to an opening date sometime during 2018.

The Tommie is one of multiple hotels planned are underway in Central Hollywood, highlighted by a nearly finished Dream Hotel and a proposed Thompson Hotel on Wilcox Avenue.

Additional projects are planned immediately south of the proposed hotel, including the $300-million Academy development from Kilroy Realty and a $110-million residential-retail complex at Cahuenga Boulevard and Fountain Avenue.
