Two years after a formal groundbreaking ceremony, signs are progress are now visible above ground at the site of the Skechers headquarters expansion.
The $150-million project, located in the cities of Manhattan Beach and Hermosa Beach, will consist of three components, including:
- a 100,000-square-foot design center and office building with 609 basement parking stalls at 2901 Pacific Coast Highway in Hermosa Beach;
- a 37,000-square-foot office building with 199 basement parking spaces at 305 Sepulveda Boulevard in Manhattan Beach; and
- an expansion of an existing office building at 330 Sepulveda Boulevard which will add 20,000 square feet of floor area and basement parking for 127 vehicles.
DFH Architects - the firm behind the existing headquarters campus - is designing expansion, which will consist entirely of two- and three-story buildings due to height limits imposed by zoning in Hermosa Beach and Manhattan Beach. Renderings depict contemporary low-rise structures clad in materials including glass and cement.
The project, when completed will expand the Skechers campus to approximately 330,000 square feet.
Completion of construction was expected in 2022.
Skechers, according figures published to its company website, recorded $4.6 billion in sales during 2020 - a drop-off from the the $5.2-billion total recorded one year earlier.
The project site sits directly across the street from the site of a restaurant which the City of Manhattan Beach recently approved for redevelopment with a 162-room hotel and a small commercial building.
